June 2010 Newsletter
24th Annual Summer Picnic and Freshman Sendoff
The 24th Annual Picnic & Freshman Sendoff will be held on Saturday, June 12, 2010 at the Micklow's - 913 San Saba Drive, Southlake (Fort Worth MAPSCO #25H). The festivities will start at 12 noon. Last year over 150 people attended and the attendees consisted of: incoming Penn State Freshman along with their family and friends; current Penn State students; Chapter members with their guests.
This Picnic and Sendoff will include:
- Lots of games and prizes... fun for all
- Unlimited food - home cooked meats, bratwurst and hot dogs, plus home-made salads, terrific desserts and various munchies.
- Freshman introductions and congratulations!!!
- Current student comments...about their experiences at Penn State to date.
- Swimming to cool you down in case it's hot!!!
- Soft drinks - However, if other drinks are desired, please bring your own (BYOB)
The cost of this entire affair is only $10 for adults and $5 for children. As usual, the incoming freshman and current students along with their families and friends are FREE. To attend, just complete & mail the RESERVATION FORM to Judy Micklow, no later than Friday, June 4, 2010. For additional information on the event call Judy. You definitely do not want to miss this one!!!!! Come help us welcome the newest members of the Penn State Family, as we host current High School Seniors who will attend Penn State in the fall.
We are looking for volunteers to help: * set up before the picnic; * during; * clean up the next day. If you would like to volunteer, call Judy Micklow.

Penn State Chapter Bus Trip to 2010 Alabama Football Game
Price for the trip: $450.00 per person (must be paid by May 28th 2010
Make checks payable to PSU North Texas Chapter and mail to Judy Micklow.
We still have approximately ten spots open on the trip. We are only taking 24 people on the bus, so there will be plenty of room to spread out on the bus.
Trip includes:
- Sleeper bus (with bunks) to and from Tuscaloosa, AL (two people to a bunk). Also, there may be a limited number of single person bunks available for an additional charge.
- Sandwiches and snacks on the bus from TX to AL.
- Drinks on bus (to and from AL)
- Snacks on the bus from AL to TX.
- Bus transportation to and from Tuscaloosa for Friday night on the town!
- Tailgate BBQ before the football game.
- Hotel lodging Friday night (based on double occupancy)
- Ticket to the game
- Choose the Member List option

- Add your e-mail address in the box for "e-mail"

Football Watching Parties
Penn State Football watching parties start Saturday September 4th when the Nittany Lions take on Youngstown State.
We will be watching games at Malarkey’s Tavern conveniently located off the Dallas North Tollway -- 4460 Trinity Mills Rd. Ste. 100 Dallas, TX (map). 972-931-7300

Texas Rangers Baseball Game and Tailgate
The Texas Rangers Baseball game, Tailgate Party and food drive on Saturday, May 8th was an event to remember!!! The weather was beautiful this year. We had a ton of great food and fun. Everyone had a great time and at the same time we helped out some needy families in the DFW Area!!!
Blue/White Watching Party
We held our first Blue White game TV watching party and Penn State won!!! The event was held at Malarkey’s Tavern on April 24th where we all enjoyed great drink and food and most of all great company with fellow alumni!!
Spring Social
The Spring Social event at Malarkey’s Tavern was held on Saturday April 3rd. It was a great day to drink some great brews, munch on some goodies and pizza and best of all talk about Penn State and our awesome Nittany Lions!!
Info Regarding Newsletter Mailings & E-Mails
The Chapter currently offers distribution of your newsletters via hard copy or e-mail. Due to the costs associated with producing the newsletter, we normally distribute the newsletters for March, June, August and December. At other times during the year (almost monthly) we have updates for what's going on in the Chapter. These updates are posted on this website and are also e-mailed to anyone who has indicated they wish to receive their newsletter via e-mail. Due to the cost, we do not send out the updates via hardcopy.
In reviewing our database we have found that many members have provided an e-mail address but have indicated that they want a hardcopy newsletter. By choosing this option you are not receiving the updates electronically.
We would like all members to review their information on the Member's List at the Chapter's website to ensure they have selected the correct option for newsletter mailings. If you don't remember how to use the website, please see the instructions below.
